Frivolous Lawsuits

Frivolous lawsuits are those brought to a court to law without legal merit, through a lack of support legal argument. These cases are filed by a party or an attorney who knows that there is little factual basis for the claims. This type of lawsuit is considered a large waste of time and money, as well as judicial resources. In some situations, a judge who finds that an attorney or another person has filed a frivolous lawsuit against another may impose fines or other sanctions. These lawsuits are often filed as a method of harassing another person or coercing the defendant in the hopes of drawing money or a settlement from them. They are often filed as a result of a lack of due diligence on behalf of the attorney handling the case.
