Charges Filed Against A Canadian Scam Artist
Attorney General Phill Kline announced today a case against a Canadian company and its owner accused of violating the Kansas Consumer Protection Act is moving forward.
According to charges filed in Shawnee County District Court by the Attorney General's Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division, United Claims Center (UCC) and its sole owner, Grei Tristram, have sent numerous notices to unsuspecting Kansans, telling them they would be given $8200 and directed them to send $3 to rush the paperwork process. However, UCC and Tristram never sent those who responded their promised $8200.
“We received a written answer from Tristram and UCC who have been targeting consumers in Kansas and across the country,” Attorney General Kline said. “Since we have now been able to effectuate service, this office can proceed to bring this company to justice. This is a significant event because it demonstrates the resolve of this office to defend Kansas consumers from all those who scheme to defraud them. Until now, no U.S. or Canadian agency would pursue the United Claims Center.”
Tristram faces 10 counts of Deceptive Act violations and two counts of Unconscionable Act violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. Read more at accesskansas.org
